Man crush alert!! (thought that better be the disclaimer before I start!) Now, this man continues to leave me astonished beyond belief, not only does he have my favourite male voice in the world, but his consistency, determination, pure talent and genuine likeability is what makes him one of the best in the business. I’ve… Continue reading Vocal Obsession: Jeremy Jordan
My favourite voice of all-time. Don’t think I need to say much more than that. This highly-acclaimed performer exceeds across the board – in tone (it’s actual liquid gold), pitch (I don’t think she’s ever sung a rough note) and belt (damn can she hold a note!). Her big break was in her then-husband Frank Wildhorn’s epic Broadway musical “Jekyll and Hyde” which he wrote for her, and you can tell; the role of ‘Lucy’ personifies all that Linda’s voice is. I can’t believe what I’m hearing whenever I listen/watch her. My ultimate goal is to see this woman live one day, hopefully it will happen soon enough! But before that day, I’ll just have to live with these perfect examples…
“Someone Like You” from Jekyll and Hyde
One of my favourite recordings of one of my favourite songs, Linda performs it with her natural incredible vocal strength and then subtlety when the song needs it, and it’s like she’s singing it all to Frank who wrote the song for her, so I mean, can that get any more perfect?!!
“Bring on the Men” from Jekyll and Hyde
So f you haven’t guessed already Jekyll and Hyde is my favourite score of all time, and this is another perfect example why. I love this song so much, its catchy, fun and just a big show-stopper. Such a mistake to cut it from the Broadway version of the show, and in this performance, Linda reminds us why. And that last note, bloody hell!!
Title Song from “Man of La Mancha”
Proof that she can sing anything. Her range is unbelievable in this. The straight belting, the growls, and that soprano, holy shit! The way this woman wraps her voice around a phrase in unlike anything I’ve ever heard.
From her 1990 album, this song is an incredible, emotive power ballad, and Linda’s vocals just soar!
“In His Eyes” from Jekyll and Hyde
Possibly my favourite musical theatre song of all time. It’s powerful, poignant and damn, those vocals! This is my favourite version of the song, taken from the concept album of the song and featuring the incredible Carolee Carmello as ‘Lisa’, later renamed ‘Emma’ in the show.
Now we come to this. I don’t have any words to describe this. My favourite voice of all time singing my favourite non-musical song of all time. Plain and simple. I cannot listen/watch this song without getting chills and feeling emotional. Another song written for her by Frank, you can tell this is a very special and personal song to Linda and she, of course, owns it every time!
In the recent exciting news that Fun Home is coming to London as well as the much-anticipated Hamilton, I thought I’d divulge into my protest bank and rant about which Broadway shows we needed to have in London yesterday! So for the purposes of fairness, I have ruled out Dear Evan Hansen and Waitress from… Continue reading 5 Shows Overdue for a West End Transfer
